Description
Pre-employment health screenings are generally similar for both men and women. However, women may have additional screenings specifically related to their physique. The main and frequently requested screenings are as follows:
Basic Health Screening
These screenings are often included in standard pre-employment health screening packages.
- Physical Examination (PE) by a physician:
– Health history taken:
– Height, weight, and body mass index (BMI) measurements
– Blood pressure and pulse measurements
– Neurological and other examinations
- Chest X-ray (CXR) to assess lung and heart health and screen for tuberculosis
- Complete Blood Count (CBC) to screen for blood cell abnormalities and anemia
- Urine Analysis (UA) to screen for kidney disease, diabetes, and urinary tract infections
- Urine drug screening: typically tests for amphetamines and methamphetamines
- Vision and color blindness screening (Vision/Color Blind Test)
Additional screenings specifically for women
These items are often added to women’s packages or as specified by the company.
- Pregnancy tests: This is usually a urine pregnancy test (UPT) to confirm pregnancy before employment, especially for jobs that pose a risk to the fetus, or before an X-ray.
- Cervical cancer screening (for certain positions/age groups). Some companies may require tests such as HPV DNA or Pap smears (but these are often optional).
